Installing an Asphalt Driveway How Its Done

There is a lot that you may not know as a homeowner regarding asphalt installation. For example, how thick your asphalt pavement is determined by how long it lasts. Additionally, compressing the asphalt too much when it’s hot could lead to crack formation that could prematurely destroy your pavement. Here is an overview of what to expect during asphalt paving installation.

The first step in this process is the demolition and removal of the existing surface.

This process is completed using heavy machineries such as bobcats and forklifts. These will remove all loose materials from the road. Once the loose materials are removed, the surface automatic motor graders are used to even out the ground. This ensures that water runs off appropriately. A reliable asphalt installation contractor should level the ground and ensure that it has no crowns on it. Peaks cause premature deterioration of the pavement.

The third step is to prepare the sub-base to stabilize the asphalt pavement. The sub-base must be well graded and compacted to give the asphalt a long lifespan. The best way to know whether the sub-base is well packed is by checking how it flexes under the truck. It should not flex for more than an inch.
